Keeping the Beat Alive in the Aussie Music Scene
🎤 Focus of the Month: Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMA)
Alright HSM Fam, this month’s all about one of the biggest events on the coast. The Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMA). It’s run by the legends at Gold Coast Music Network and celebrates everything we love about this city’s music culture.
We’re pumped to share that Hanlon School of Music is a major sponsor once again, marking our third year in a row backing the artists, producers and venues that make the Gold Coast’s music scene so special.
The GCMA isn’t just about trophies or speeches; it’s about connection, community and celebrating the sound that brings us all together.
So come along, support your local artists and let’s make some noise for the people keeping our scene alive.

The Aussie Music Scene Is Buzzing
The Aussie music scene is slowly making a comeback! From small venues finding new life to Aussie artists blowing up overseas, it’s clear music here is more than just sound, it’s culture, connection and community.
If you haven’t seen it, check out this piece from The Guardian on how Aussie artists are taking over the world (but how we still need to back them more at home):
Grassroots Power: Australian Music Venue Foundation Steps Up
There’s a new organisation on the scene — the Australian Music Venue Foundation (AMVF). Giving small, live-music venues across the country a proper voice.
Finally, the little pubs, bars and creative hubs that keep our live scene alive have someone fighting for them.
That’s massive for independent artists and local music lovers everywhere.
Aussie Artists Soaring — and Why We Need to Keep Listening
Lately, The Music Network has been full of stories about Aussie artists blowing up overseas, but local listening numbers are dropping. It’s a reminder that if we want our culture to stay strong, we’ve got to keep showing up to gigs, buying tickets and backing homegrown talent.
That’s what we do at HSM, giving our students the stage, confidence and community to keep that heartbeat of Aussie music going strong.
